Dutch Ambassador in Egypt opens peanut processing plant in Egypt

On Thursday 26 May 2016, the new Peanut shelling plant Kernile, was officially opened by the ambassador of the Netherlands in Cairo, Mr Gerard Steeghs.

Kernile (http://www.kernile.com) is a Joint venture between the Dutch company Katjang Pedis and the Egyptian company Growtech and was established within the frame of a PSI project with support from the Dutch government.

Agriment assisted in the development and implementation of this project.

The processing plant is the first in Egypt and the region which is able to process peanuts into a quality that meets the requirements of the European market and local processing facilities of international snack producers (KRAFT and PepsiCo).

The factory has an annual capacity of 35.000 tons and processes Egyptian peanuts during the season that runs from September to February. The rest of the year, raw ‘farmers’ stock peanuts from USA, Senegal, Sudan and other African countries are processed into a high quality end product, being sorted kernels and in-shells.
